History Makers! Bearcats Earn Record 9th State Football Championship

state champs The Aledo Bearcat football team captured state history in the Class 5A Division II state championship game on Dec. 21, 2019 at AT&T Stadium.

The Bearcats won their ninth state championship to become the most decorated 11-man football champion in the state. Aledo (15-1) earned history with a 45-42 victory against Fort Bend Marshall, in a rematch of last year's title game the Bearcats won. Aledo finished the season with 15 consecutive victories and has won back-to-back state championships.

Aledo coach Tim Buchanan led the Bearcats to the championship in his return to the sidelines. He shifted from Aledo ISD athletic director to the sidelines for the 2019 season.

Aledo led the game from the start and held a 28-20 halftime lead. Bearcat senior quarterback Jake Bishop, who threw three TDs, was named Offensive Player of the Game. Junior cornerback Demarco Roberts was chosen Defensive Player of the Game.
