School Board Approves Decreased Tax Rate, 2019-2020 School Budget
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees approved a decreased tax rate and the 2019-2020 school budget during the Tuesday, Aug. 27 Special Board meeting.
Trustees voted 7-0 to approve the adoption of a $1.49 tax rate, which is a 10-cent decrease from the previous rate of $1.59.
During the recent 86th legislative session, lawmakers approved House Bill 3 which provides additional state funding that allowed Aledo ISD to lower the school district tax rate. Prior to approving the tax rate and school budget, a public hearing was held.
The approved 2019-2020 Aledo ISD budget includes the following employee raises:
-Aledo ISD’s starting teacher salary from $51,000 to $55,000 -7% raise for teachers, librarians, and nurses with 6+ years of experience (a minimum of a $3,950) -6.5% raise for teachers, librarians, and nurses with 1-5 years of experience (a minimum of a $3,700 increase) -6% raise for paraprofessional and auxiliary employees -5% raise for campus and district administrators and other professionals
Trustees also voted 7-0 to approve paying a portion of the District's outstanding bonds before maturity. This payment will save District taxpayers $488,775 in future interest costs.
