Aledo High School Students Earn Parker County Today Honors

horizon award winners Aledo High School students Brittin Choate and Sean McCarthy were honored as two of the most extraordinary young people under 20 in Parker County.

Both were celebrated as Horizon Awards winners along with other honorees at a banquet on Feb. 26 at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center in Weatherford.

Choate, a freshman at the Daniel Ninth Grade Campus, was honored for her outstanding work in the classroom and dedication to serving others in the community. She has been involved in multiple international mission trips to Jamaica and Canada and has served at the Center of Hope. She also took a mission trip to India during spring break.

McCarthy's service to his community began in 5th grade. McCarthy, now a sophomore, raised money to purchase pizzas for the homeless and was inspired by McAnally teacher Sara Reed's challenge to her students to create an idea that could change the world. He has continued to make a difference in the community through pizza deliveries and riding in charity events to benefit cancer awareness.

The Horizon Awards are sponsored by Parker County Today magazine. Both students are featured in the March issue.
