Aledo ISD's Bearcat Growth Committee Begins Process
Aledo ISD's Bearcat Growth Committee held its first meeting Thursday, Jan. 24 and launched the process of assessing facility needs in the district.
The 38-member committee, approved by the Aledo ISD School Board, is comprised of parents, staff and members of the community. They will evaluate data related to enrollment, finances, instructional priorities and facility needs. The committee will also work toward building a bond program recommendation for the Board of Trustees to address needs due to increasing student enrollment and aging facilities.
The committee meetings will be led by co-chairs Jim Scott and Christi James. Scott is an Aledo ISD parent and James is a member of the community.
“The focus of the BGC is the children of Aledo ISD,” Scott said. “It’s not just about my kids or your kids, it’s about all the kids of Aledo ISD. We look forward to our future meetings in gathering and reviewing important data, and working collectively to build a bond program for Aledo ISD."
The Bearcat Growth Committee will gather input from students, staff, parents and community members during the process. Meetings will be held through August and the co-chairs will provide updates to the School Board during the process. Click here to view the meeting schedule, which will include tours of facilities.
The first meeting included introductions, overview of the process and a state of district presentation by Superintendent Dr. Susan K. Bohn. These documents can be found on the BGC meeting schedule webpage by clicking here.
“We had an outstanding first meeting and it was exciting to hear from so many committee members ready to volunteer their time and contribute in this process,” James said. “The BGC has a great representation of parents, teachers and members of the Aledo ISD community with a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.”
The BGC's next meeting will be Feb. 7 and include a demographics presentation by Templeton Demographics. This presentation will include enrollment growth data for the BGC to evaluate.
Also, an email account has been created to share feedback or questions for the BGC -- BGC@aledosid.org. Feel free to submit questions to the committee during the process.
BGC information and presentations from each meeting will be posted to the district website during the process. The website will include frequently asked questions, agendas and minutes from each meeting.
