District of Innovation Committee Creates Draft Plan

aledo logo In October 2018, our District’s Board of Trustees voted to approve the administration’s recommendation to start the process of becoming a District of Innovation (DOI).

Being a DOI would allow Aledo ISD to take advantage of more flexibility and local control under an innovation plan that is tailored to the needs of our students, staff, and community. We believe that our district will operate best when decisions are made locally — those who know our children, staff, and community needs. Please note there are instances in which our district is at a disadvantage because most districts in our area are DOI.

Since October, the district has convened a school board-approved committee (DOI Committee) made up of teachers, administrators, parents and community members to construct a DOI plan. This draft plan, with four proposed exemptions, was presented to the Board of Trustees Monday night. Click here to watch the meeting. This proposed draft plan is posted on the district’s website for 30 calendar days in order to seek feedback from all stakeholders.

Please take advantage of this 30-day feedback period and send your comments via email to DOIfeedback@aledoisd.org.

After receiving and reviewing all feedback, the DOI Committee will meet to determine any revisions to the draft plan. The committee will then recommend the approved plan to the Board of Trustees for their consideration at the Jan. 22, 2019 Board meeting. If the innovation plan is approved at the second reading by the Board on Feb. 19, 2019, the approved plan will then be sent to the Texas Education Agency.
