23-24 Attendance Zone Committee Application is Open
November 13, 2023
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees approved the charge and purpose of an Attendance Zone Committee during the regular board meeting on November 13, 2023, that will work at the charge of the Board of Trustees and will begin meeting in January. With the district growing and adding campuses, this is a process Aledo ISD will undergo frequently. The district is adding its seventh elementary school, Lynn McKinney Elementary, next fall just to the east of the Morningstar neighborhood and north of McAnally Middle School.
Before those meetings begin, the Aledo ISD Board of Trustees is asking the community to consider applying for this very important committee. Please read below for more information; applications are due by 4 p.m. on Monday, December 4.
Board-approved AZC charge:
The Attendance Zone Committee is charged by the Board of Trustees to:
-
represent the priorities, expectations, and values of the entire community,
-
consider the needs of all of the district’s students,
-
listen to and consider questions and feedback from all community members and the Board of Trustees,
-
use facts and data to make informed decisions,
-
recommend attendance zones that are projected to most efficiently use building capacity for the longest time period possible (given projected student growth), and
-
recommend to the Board of Trustees an elementary attendance zone map (effective 2024-2025) and a middle school attendance zone map (effective 2024-2025) for approval by the Board and implementation by the Administration.
Board-approved AZC purpose:
The purpose of the Attendance Zone Committee is to represent the Aledo ISD community in the study of data related to projected student enrollment growth, campus student capacity, safety, transportation, current and planned transportation infrastructure, and geographic location of planned development in the district, in recommending to the Board of Trustees new attendance zones for elementary and middle schools.
Who are the Board of Trustees looking for as AZC members?
The Board of Trustees are seeking a diverse group of parents and community members representing all areas within the boundaries of the district, all ages of students and campuses (although it is not a requirement to have students in the district for selection), and a variety of backgrounds and time having lived in the district.
What is the time commitment for the AZC?
The Board of Trustees ask that if you apply and are selected, you do not miss any meetings! The current tentative schedule is (all meetings in the evening): January 23, February 6, February 13 and March 5; The AZC may also meet March 19, if necessary. Please take these dates into consideration when deciding whether or not to apply!
What do I do if I want to apply?
Please complete the AZC application form by 4 p.m. on Monday, December 4. Applicants will be contacted the week of December 11 on the status of their application.
How do I keep up with what is going on with the attendance zone boundaries?
An Attendance Zone Committee website is set up where you can see meeting information, including agendas and minutes; Aledo ISD will be adding FAQs on the attendance rezoning process and more. The website is aledoisd.org/azc.
