Aledo High School Treble Choir Earns National Honor
September 22, 2020
The Aledo High School Treble Choir was honored recently as one of eight national winners – and one of four from the high school division – in the 2020 Mark of Excellence National Choral Honors competition sponsored by The Foundation for Music Education.
The Mark of Excellence is a national music competition that recognizes music programs and their ensembles for high standards in performance. This year’s competition had 145 entries from 38 states in categories for choral, wind band, orchestra, jazz and percussion.
“Words really can’t express how proud, honored, inspired and encouraged I am by these students every day,” Aledo High School choir director Karen Paul said. “There are a lot of great choirs that submit recordings for The Foundation for Music Education’s Mark of Excellence awards each year. This was our first time to enter, and I am blown away that we were selected.
“This is a tremendous honor for the an incredibly deserving and talented group of students,” Paul said.
The Mark of Excellence competition is judged by nationally respected adjudicators. The top quarter are named National Winners and the second quarter are Commended Winners.
“The performance of your ensemble represents the very highest level of music teaching, learning and performing,” wrote Alan Hanna, executive director of The Foundation for Music Education, in a letter to the Aledo ISD Treble Choir announcing their honor.
