B.S. Biology

Mrs. Poriotis

Hello, Bearcats!  My name is LeShay Poriotis.  I teach Biology and Pre-AP Biology this year at Don R. Daniel Ninth Grade Campus.  Biology is my passion!  I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology at Texas Christian University in 2010.  During this time, I joined Biology club, where we enjoyed many camping adventures.  I also went on a summer expedition to Northern California with two tenured TCU Biology Professors (one, a world-renowned herpetologist!).  We conducted research in Lassen Volcanic National Park, home of the largest plug dome volcano in the world and one of the most beautiful places to explore!  I have also worked with the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) in Fort Worth.

My reason for teaching Biology is to pass on the passion I have for the subject to my students.  Biology is LIFE!  As young scientists, I want to give my students the opportunity to explore, and to gain knowledge and understanding about the world in which they live.  My goal is to help my students develop an enduring understanding of the overarching concepts in biology.  I will provide engaging and purposeful instruction and assessments in order to develop, apply and reinforce their knowledge and skills in the subject.

I'm excited to start the year and begin learning with you!
