McCall Family:
Before we continue the school year together, I want to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about my journey to McCall. I have been an educator for most of my life beginning in my mother’s third grade classroom. I have loved working with and for kids professionally and officially since 1991, and I am starting my 28th year in education with 15 of those years as an administrator. I have been blessed to work at several Aledo ISD schools including Coder, McAnally, and Stuard.
If you were in the district last year, you‘ll remember that Aledo staff delved deeply into knowing and sharing our “why.” My “why” is students. I believe teachers can make the greatest difference in a student’s ability to learn. I love seeing children learn, especially the “ah-ha” moments. Seeing students own their learning has been especially exciting. Owning their learning allows students to set goals, make decisions on what they must do to meet the goals, and then strive to reach their goals. In previous years, I have had the opportunity to meet with students to talk about these things and check back in with the students. It makes an unbelievable difference in their how and why and also in reaching their goals.
I imagine Mrs. Choate’s “why” was likely similar -- about students and also her staff. I met Julie in 2000 when I came to Aledo, and we job-shared the Assistant Principal position at Coder for a year. I have been an assistant principal and principal alongside Julie, and I am honored to count her among my friends. I always admired how she impacted those around her, including staff, students, and parents. I especially admired her grace and her willingness to give grace. It stands to reason that these qualities will be reflected in the staff and students at McCall.
I am excited to be a part of the incredible McCall family. I have always heard about the amazing McCall community where staff, students, and parents rally together to champion for learning. “McCall is a family and we take care of each other,” is a statement that I have heard over and over about the McCall faculty. I am also excited to work with and mentor Assistant Principal Jake Bean as we work together as a team to support moving McCall forward. I feel like I have known Jake for years, but I am eager to learn more about him and how he supports students in their learning.
I have always said that Bearcats take care of Bearcats, and I have been given the opportunity to help the McCall Bearcats. I cannot wait to start working with each of you and our students.
Sincerely,
Amy Sadler
