Aledo ISD Legislative Update - December 14, 2023

December 14, 2023

Dear Aledo ISD community -

Before the end of the semester and end of the calendar year, we wanted to give you a quick update on the Texas Legislature after their fourth called special session adjourned last Tuesday, December 5.

This update will be quick because there really is nothing that happened during the fourth special session to improve the funding situation for our schools. We have been communicating with you about advocating for more public school funding because of the significant inflation and increased costs we are seeing that will result in additional budget cuts in Aledo ISD. Last summer, we began working with all campuses and departments to decrease their annual operational budgets by 10% while identifying additional savings where possible.

Needless to say, we are very disappointed that there was no action taken to increase public school funding during the fourth called special session. We have not yet heard if the Governor plans to call a fifth special session, but we will keep you informed. Please know that, as always, we will also continue to advocate for our Bearcat schoolchildren, teachers and staff with our local legislators - they are all worth it!

Thank you for being engaged up to this point - it means a great deal to us when we hear from our local legislators that they’ve heard from you! Your voice matters and it has an impact. We wish you and your families a blessed holiday season and a wonderful end to the semester.

All In,
