AISD Theatre Program

The course is intended to be a general introduction to the fundamentals of basic theatre production techniques. Students are introduced to acting, directing, makeup application, technical work, and costuming. Theatre history is an important component of this course leading to an appreciation of the theatre. Students are required to attend a live theatre performance during the school year.

Theatre Arts II is designed to build on the skills learned in Theatre Arts I. Theatre production is stressed. Students are required to attend a live theatre performance during the school year. Prerequisite Theatre I.

Theatre Arts III is the study of advanced theatre techniques in design, lighting, costuming, make-up acting, critique, directing, and auditioning skills. This is a production-oriented course. Students are required to attend a live theatre performance during the school year. Prerequisite Theatre II.

Musical Theatre is an interactive class focusing on audition techniques, musical eras from 1890’s to current, a variety of dance styles, character analysis and the history of this great American art form. Members of the class will have hands-on, performance-based opportunities to practice musical theatre technique as they become young professional theatre artists. Prerequisite Theatre I/Audition.

Technical Theatre combines theories of design and stagecraft techniques with construction and operation of production elements, including set construction, property management, lighting, sound, costumes, makeup, and public relations. Time beyond the school day is expected. Students are required to attend a live theatre performance during the school year.  

Technical Theatre combines theories of design and stagecraft techniques with construction and operation of production elements, including set construction, property management, lighting, sound, costumes, makeup, and public relations. Time beyond the school day is expected. Students are required to attend a live theatre performance during the school year.  Prerequisite Technical Theatre I/Audition.

This course is designed to give the students enrolled an opportunity to put into practice basic skills learned in Theatre Arts I and II. Students will select, audition, cast, and produce a production. Students will be responsible for all production elements of this course and will produce performances as the end result. Students are required to attend a live theatre performance during the school year. Prerequisite Theatre I/Technical Theatre I/Audition.

This course is designed to give the students enrolled an opportunity to put into practice basic skills learned in Technical Theatre I and II. Students will be responsible for the technical production elements  associated with each production. Opportunities exist for students to work with a variety of outside groups requiring technical support. Students are required to attend a live theatre performance during the school year. Prerequisite Theatre I/Technical Theatre I/Audition.

Students study a range of theatrical content and are expected to perform in class and in stage productions.

Theatre Arts II/III is designed to build on the skills learned in Theatre Arts I. Theatre production is stressed. Students learn audition techniques and advanced acting and production skills. Students are expected to participate in duet acting, monologues, and group scenes. Audition only class.
