AISD Dance Program

Dance I is a broad overview of dance as an art form. This course introduces students to practices, philosophies, terminologies and various styles of dance through movement. Students will study basic choreographic elements and principles and will increase their understanding of creative expression, artistic process, historical and cultural relevance, critical evaluation and response. 

Students continue to reinforce and refine the fundamental skills learned in Dance I. This course will allow the students to expand their knowledge past comprehension and engage students in rigorous dance course work. 

Dance III emphasizes development of the total dancer by integrating each student’s physical, analytical, and creative growth in the aspect of technique and choreography. 

Dance IV provides students with an advanced dance curriculum with a continuing emphasis on all basic dance knowledge and skills learned in previous dance levels. Students engage in rigorous dance techniques, choreographic projects, video studies, dance history and peer instruction.

Students develop basic perceptual thinking and movement abilities for daily life, promoting an understanding of themselves and others. Students develop movement principles and technical skills and explore choreographic and performance qualities. Students develop self-discipline and healthy bodies that move expressively, efficiently, and safely through space and time. Through this course of study, students will gain a solid foundation of performance. Students will perform at all district and campus dance shows throughout the year. It is an engaging and fun filled class where students with and without prior dance knowledge will be challenged while learning new and exciting skills.

Students continue to develop movement principles and technical skills and explore choreographic and performance qualities. Students develop self discipline and healthy bodies that move expressively, efficiently, and safely through space and time. Through this course of study, students will build upon their performance foundation and perform at all district and campus dance shows.
