February is National Career and Technical Education Month, and Aledo ISD is kicking it off with the exciting news that the district has been named a CTE District of Distinction by the Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT).

This esteemed recognition celebrates districts across Texas that demonstrate exemplary leadership, innovation and commitment to student success through high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Aledo ISD is one of 38 school districts in Texas to receive this designation.

“Being a CTE District of Distinction is the result of incredibly hard work and dedication of our CTE administrators and educators - from middle school through high school - and their commitment to ensuring exceptional experiences for our students in CTE courses,” Aledo ISD Superintendent Dr. Susan Bohn said. “The growth of and participation in CTE programs in our district has been astounding, and we are proud to be continuously finding new courses to offer that interest our students.

“I want to thank all of our Career and Technical Education teachers and leaders for all of the time and energy they have invested into our students and these programs,” Bohn said. “The learning and certifications they earn prepare our students for the workforce and further education after high school.”

Aledo ISD offers 10 different career clusters where students can earn more than 40 industry-based certifications. In 2023-2024, Aledo High School students earned 492 industry certifications. In the current school year, 2,015 - or 86% - of students in grades 9-12 are taking at least one CTE course, and more than 250 high school students are serving internships with more than 60 businesses in Aledo, Parker County and western Tarrant County. In all, Aledo ISD offers 77 unique CTE courses for students in grades 7-12.

The available CTE programs of study in Aledo ISD include: arts, audio visual technology and communication; architecture and construction; agriculture, food and natural resources; business, marketing and finance; engineering; education and training; health science; information technology; law and public service; and transportation, distribution and logistics.

“We are so very proud to receive the CTE District of Distinction from CTAT; we strive for excellence in our CTE courses everyday, and an award like this helps validate that our efforts are working,” said Angie Wilkinson, AISD Director of CTE and Advanced Academics. “This is a direct reflection of our amazing CTE teachers; they are definitely Growing Greatness in their classrooms.”

The CTE District of Distinction program, launched by CTAT, highlights districts that excel in workforce readiness, foster innovation in CTE, and inspire others through their dedication to student achievement and community impact. Honored districts serve as models of excellence, showcasing best practices and driving progress in CTE statewide.
