2023 - 2024 Attendance Zone Committee
2023 - 2024 Attendance Zone Committee Purpose
The purpose of the Attendance Zone Committee is to represent the Aledo ISD community in the study of data related to projected student enrollment growth, campus student capacity, safety, transportation, current and planned transportation infrastructure, and geographic location of planned development in the district, in recommending to the Board of Trustees new attendance zones for elementary and middle schools.
2023 - 2024 Attendance Zone Committee Charge
The Attendance Zone Committee is charged by the Board of Trustees to:
- represent the priorities, expectations, and values of the entire community,
- consider the needs of all of the district’s students,
- listen to and consider questions and feedback from all community members and the Board of Trustees,
- use facts and data to make informed decisions,
- recommend attendance zones that are projected to most efficiently use building capacity for the longest time period possible (given projected student growth), and
- recommend to the Board of Trustees an elementary attendance zone map (effective 2024-2025) and a middle school attendance zone map (effective 2024-2025) for approval by the Board and implementation by the Administration.
Stay Put Information & Communication from Superintendent Dr. Bohn
March 19, 2024
Dear Aledo ISD Community -
We are excited to open our newest elementary school Lynn McKinney Elementary near the Morningstar neighborhood this fall, and, as with any new school opening, this requires changes to our current attendance zones.
New, final attendance zone maps approved by the Board of Trustees
After careful consideration and many hours of collective work and collaboration, the Attendance Zone Committee recommended these new boundary changes to our Board of Trustees last night during the regular March board meeting, and Trustees approved the new 2024-2025 attendance zones last night.
We are grateful to the AZC - a group of nearly 50 of your fellow parents, neighbors and community members led by two community-member co-chairs - for their time and dedication to this process. We are also grateful to you for sharing your feedback with the members of the AZC about the draft maps that they shared with the Board and community on February 19.
The AZC met over the past couple of months to study enrollment growth, campus student capacity, safety, transportation, current and planned transportation infrastructure, location of planned development in the district and your feedback to devise recommended attendance zone maps for both elementary and middle schools.
These new attendance zones for elementary and middle schools will go into effect this fall beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.
You can view and download the 2024-2025 Final Attendance Zone Boundary maps below.
Opportunities for students and parents who have been assigned to new schools
We know that you all LOVE your Aledo ISD staff, teachers and campuses - and we also know that feeling is mutual across our entire district no matter which AISD campus you're at. However, we also know that having to move schools due to the student enrollment growth in our district and the construction of new campuses can feel disruptive, stressful and challenging for a family. If your child has been assigned to a new campus, you will be getting information soon from your new campus leadership about opportunities to support the transition for your child and family. Our amazing staff can’t wait to welcome you!
“Stay Put” available for current 4th and 7th graders for one school year
We will be, as previously communicated, offering a “Stay Put” option for current 4th and/or 7th graders (rising 5th and 8th graders) that gives these students the ability to Stay Put at their current school for one year. This means that these students will have the opportunity to remain at their current school for the next academic year despite the changes made to the attendance zone. If a current 4th or 7th grader has younger siblings at the school (including incoming 6th graders), siblings are eligible for a 1-year Stay Put, as well.
A couple of important notes about Stay Put:
-
If you decide to Stay Put for the 2024-2025 school year, you must provide transportation for your student(s) to/from that campus; there will be no bus transportation available.
-
The only AISD students who have the option to Stay Put are rising 5th and 8th graders who attend 4th or 7th grade at an Aledo ISD elementary school during the 2023-2024 (current) school year, who will attend Aledo ISD schools during the 2024-2025 school year, and who have been assigned to a different elementary or middle school for the 2024-2025 school year.
-
All students in the district will follow the attendance zone boundaries that are set by the Attendance Zone Committee for the 2025-2026 school year.
-
You must complete the form below by March 31, 2024, in order for your child to opt in to the Stay Put opportunity. If you wish for your child to attend your newly assigned campus, no further action is required and your child’s records will be sent to the newly assigned campus before next school year.
If your child is eligible for Stay Put, you will be receiving an email regarding your opportunity to opt in. The form is listed below on this page, as well.
Thank you for your patience and grace as we make these adjustments in the district and work toward opening our 7th elementary school. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
All In,
Susan
