2023 - 2024 Attendance Zone Committee

The Attendance Zone Committee is chaired by community members Lauren Edwards and Aaron Valencia who lead meetings and discussions among 48 additional Aledo ISD residents. These Bearcat parents and community members were appointed to the committee by a Board of Trustees member, nominated by a campus or chosen from applications submitted via an online form November 14, 2023 through December 4, 2023. The district worked hard to make sure the AZC was represented by a diverse group of community members from different neighborhoods and areas of the district and from each campus in the district.

Residents and community members can submit feedback to the email attendancezones@aledoisd.org. The community member co-chairs of the Attendance Zone Committee, Aaron Valencia and Lauren Edwards, receive each email. All feedback, either from the survey or email, is shared with all 50 of the members of the AZC and the Aledo ISD Board of Trustees.

Yes, Attendance Zone Committee members were provided the latest demographic update by PASA Demographics, the outside demographer that projects student growth for the district. PASA examines an array of information including market trends, economic conditions, active and future planned developments, employment rates, and birth rates. Part of the purpose of the AZC is to study data related to projected student enrollment growth, which includes that projected by PASA due to planned future developments.

As the attendance zone boundaries are currently being adjusted by the Attendance Zone Committee because of the opening of Aledo ISD’s seventh elementary school, Lynn McKinney Elementary, this fall, Aledo ISD Administration has constructed guidelines for the opportunity for a student who currently attends a campus as a fourth grader or seventh grader (during this 2023-2024 school year) to “Stay Put” at that campus for his/her fifth grade year OR eighth grade year during the 2024-2025 school year. If a parent chooses for their incoming fifth grader or eighth grader to stay on the campus to which he/she is currently assigned, any sibling of that incoming fifth grader or incoming eighth grader may also attend the campus for only one school year (the 2024-2025 school year). If a parent chooses to keep their incoming fifth grader or eighth grader (and any sibling) on their current campus for fifth grade or eighth grade, the parent must provide transportation for their child/ren on that campus.

All students in the district will follow the attendance zone boundaries that are set by the Attendance Zone Committee for the 2025-2026 school year.

Stay tuned for more information and an application process that will begin after the attendance zone boundaries have been approved in March. The district will communicate that information to families at that time.

Aledo ISD has been getting questions from the community regarding bus service from the Morningstar neighborhood to McKinney Elementary and McAnally Middle School for the 2024-2025 school year. We understand that this is an area of concern, and we hope giving you this information now will help you plan for the school year ahead.

Upon the completion of McKinney Elementary, there will be a continuous sidewalk from Nightmist Road that connects the Morningstar neighborhood to McKinney Elementary through to McAnally Middle School. The district has a policy that students who live within two miles of the campus in a non-hazardous traffic area will not be provided transportation. For example, the district does not provide bus service for students living in the Walsh neighborhood who attend Walsh Elementary. This means that there will be no transportation provided to students who live in Morningstar to either McKinney Elementary or McAnally Middle School since both lie within that two-mile limit. The district will continue to provide bus service from Morningstar to Aledo High School/Daniel Ninth Grade Campus.

The exception to this is special needs students whose ARD paperwork includes transportation.

The district made sure to build this continuous sidewalk connecting these properties so our schoolchildren who live in the Morningstar neighborhood can bike or walk to their neighborhood elementary and middle schools.
