Aledo Independent School District voters approved a $149,950,000 bond proposal on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019.

Building Greatness Aledo ISD

The bond proposal, which was constructed by 38 community members who made up the Bearcat Growth Committee, was approved by 62 percent of the votes (3,986). In this election, there were 6,428 total votes, including 3,798 during the early voting period.

“We are so grateful that our Aledo ISD community has supported the proposal of their fellow community members on the Bearcat Growth Committee,” said Aledo ISD Superintendent Dr. Susan K. Bohn. “Through their impressive process, the BGC members used their skills, expertise, and knowledge of, and input from the community, to build a bond proposal that voters could get behind that addresses student enrollment. We look forward to getting to work immediately to carry out the BGC’s vision.”

Aledo ISD voters approved the funding for two new campuses, renovations to three existing campuses, replacement furniture at three elementary schools, land for future school sites, and school buses. Additionally, the approved bond proposal does not include a tax rate increase and the overall school tax rate has dropped by 10 cents.

“This is a significant turning point in Aledo ISD’s history and it was made possible by our outstanding community,” said Aledo ISD School Board President Hoyt Harris. “I applaud the tremendous work done by the Bearcat Growth Committee members, who spent countless hours dedicated to building a well-designed proposal for our community.”

From January to August, the Bearcat Growth Committee (BGC) held 10 meetings examining the District’s increasing student enrollment, financial information, district-wide facility needs, and instructional goals. The BGC built a bond recommendation that focused on student capacity needs and learning spaces at the middle and elementary school levels.

“We have such a wonderful community and this shows they are committed to supporting the District’s future and providing the best learning environment possible for our children,” said Christi James, Bearcat Growth Committee Co-Chair.

Said fellow BGC Co-Chair Jim Scott, “The BGC worked tirelessly to put forth a bond proposal that addressed the District’s critical needs and our community’s expectations. Our community has responded that its expectations were met. The best thing of all is that the benefit of this bond goes to our kids in Aledo ISD – the community’s kids.”

Voters approved Middle School No. 2 ($62,501,000), Aledo Middle School Renovation/Expansion ($33,446,000), Elementary School No. 6 ($35,858,000), Vandagriff Renovation to Early Childhood Campus ($1,709,000), Coder Elementary, Stuard Elementary, McCall Elementary furniture replacement ($1,800,000), land for future school sites ($4,525,000) and school buses ($500,000).
