Superintendent
Dr. Susan K. Bohn, Superintendent
Dr. Susan K. Bohn has served as the Superintendent of Aledo ISD since June of 2018. Since her hiring, Dr. Bohn has prioritized establishing commitment to student academic growth, increasing opportunities for students, responding to the needs of staff, and building community trust.
Dr. Bohn cherishes the opportunity to serve children, educators, and her community, and works to lead with her values and the expectations of her community as the foundation. She firmly believes in the incredibly profound positive impact that public schools have in Texas and expects that all students, staff, parents, and community members in Aledo ISD are offered exceptional experiences every day.
Her belief that a high quality, well-rounded education inspires children to find what they love and be prepared for their adult lives drives her to support and sustain teaching and learning in a systemic way districtwide. The Aledo ISD Instructional Focus emphasizes the rigor and relevance of instruction, with an emphasis on best-practice teaching and learning expectations Pre-K through 12, across the district. Since Dr. Bohn has joined the district, programs offered for students in academics, advanced academics, career and technical education (CTE), fine arts, athletics, and extracurricular programs have all increased significantly and the district has been recognized at state and national levels as a leader in student access to and performance in advanced academics, CTE, and U.I.L competition (academic, fine arts, and athletics). Students have continued to perform at the highest levels, earning placements and championships at the state level. Aledo High School celebrated earning 2nd place in the U.I.L. Lone Star Cup in 2024.
Since Dr. Bohn's arrival, Aledo ISD has grown from 6,000 to approximately 8,400 students and from 650 to almost 1,000 staff members. Dr. Bohn has facilitated the community’s planning for growth with a commitment to transparency and listening to and meeting the expectations of students, community members, and staff, largely through the creation of citizen committees led by citizen co-chairs. These committees have prioritized the use of data to put together and recommend to the Board of Trustees the most conservative bond packages possible that were responsive to the needs of the district’s rapidly growing student population and the expectations of the community. Aledo voters approved a $149.95 million bond in November of 2019 and a $123.8 million bond in 2023 that, combined, resulted in two new elementary schools, a new middle school and significant renovations/additions to four other campuses. Dr. Bohn has overseen multiple large construction projects and has led the acquisition of multiple future school sites (a total of approximately 172 acres) through donations, swaps, and purchases.
Dr. Bohn prioritizes the retention and recruitment of the best staff to serve AISD’s students, and early in her tenure led significant increases in teacher salaries, as well as increases in other benefits including health insurance contributions, teacher workdays, access to the district’s first employee childcare center, and various employee recognition programs. Believing that she and all staff must be better at serving our children tomorrow than we were today, the district has created and maintains a support system for teachers of collaborative teams and has increased the availability of professional learning, mentoring, and leadership growth programming for teachers and all staff.
Upon her arrival in Aledo ISD, Dr. Bohn began a revamping of the district’s financial and budget processes to include multiple public budget workshops with the Board of Trustees each year, more frequent public reports regarding budget progress, and increased public accessibility and understanding of district financial data. With this work on financial and budget processes, Aledo ISD has earned the Transparency Star recognition from the Texas Comptroller annually since 2019. During the recent budget crisis in Texas public schools, Dr. Bohn has led budget reductions of approximately $5.6 million through operational changes and natural staff attrition, avoiding both staff layoffs and any elimination of programs for students.
Dr. Bohn is passionate about community and staff engagement and ensuring that the expectations and priorities of the community are reflected in the district’s decisions and operations. With her arrival in the district, she increased and revamped communication between the district and campuses and staff and the community. She created new citizen committees and opportunities for student, staff and community feedback, including the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council, Bearcat/Aledo Growth Committees, AISD Local Government Collaborative, Attendance Zone Committees, Aledo Leads, Teaching and Learning Focus Group, SilverCats, and more.
Her work with the AISD Board of Trustees is focused on communication and collaboration so that her work is consistently reflective of the values and expectations of AISD students, staff, parents, and citizens. She works with multiple subcommittees of the Board and together they prioritize advocating for the needs of the AISD community with state and local officials. Dr. Bohn and the Board believe in the power of strong governance and leadership, with a goal of continuous improvement, earning the Board of Trustees the honor of being the TASA Outstanding School Board for the state of Texas in 2021.
Dr. Bohn was recognized as the Parker County Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year in 2025 and the Region 11 Superintendent of the Year in 2021. She is active in leadership positions in statewide and regional organizations, currently and having served as the Chair of the Fast Growth School Coalition, President of the Texas Association of Suburban and MidUrban Schools, a member of the UIL State Legislative Council and UIL State Executive Committee, and on the executive committee of the Texas Council of Women School Executives. Locally, she has served as the chair and vice-chair of the Region 11 superintendents council and on the Board of Directors of the North Texas Commission (chair of the Superintendent Advisory Council and former co-chair of the Education and Workforce Policy Task Force). Dr. Bohn is active as a mentor for Texas superintendents new to the role, as a frequent speaker and presenter, and has taught policy, politics and governance as an adjunct professor in Baylor University’s Educational Leadership doctoral program.
Dr. Bohn previously served as the Superintendent of Lockhart Independent School District from 2015-2018, where she was nominated by the Board of Trustees for Superintendent of the Year. She also worked nine years in Lake Travis ISD as Interim Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and General Counsel. Her professional career also includes teaching high school in Fort Bend ISD and practicing law as a school attorney with a private firm.
Dr. Bohn has three degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, a Bachelor of Arts in the Plan II Honors Program, a Master of Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs, and a Juris Doctorate from the UT School of Law. She also has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University.
Dr. Bohn is a native Texan and a graduate of Austin public schools. She and her husband Bill have two sons, who both attend Aledo ISD schools.
