Dr. Susan K. Bohn has served as the Superintendent of Aledo ISD since June of 2018.
Since her hiring, Aledo ISD has adopted an instructional focus, with an emphasis on best- practice teaching and learning expectations K-12 district-wide. The District has accomplished a District of Innovation designation, and the Board of Trustees/Superintendent team has completed the eXcellence in Governance (XG) professional learning series and adopted the district’s first-ever legislative priorities.
Dr. Bohn has led the district’s planning process for fast growth with a commitment to transparency and community involvement. In November of 2019, Aledo voters approved a $149 million bond, which will result in the construction of a new elementary school and a new middle school, and significant renovations to three other campuses.
Under Dr. Bohn’s leadership, the District has also worked to forge connections in the community, through programs such as the Local Government Collaborative, which brings together leaders in city, county, and state government, as well as chamber of commerce and education foundation leaders to collaborate in representation of the citizens of Aledo ISD’s fast-growth community.
Dr. Bohn is active in leadership positions in state organizations, currently serving on the UIL State Legislative Council, as the Vice Chair of the Fast Growth School Coalition, and on the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Suburban/Mid-Urban Schools. Locally, she is a member of the Board of Directors of the North Texas Commission and the Aledo Education Foundation, and works closely with the boards of the Aledo ISD Parent Teacher Organization and Aledo Children’s AdvoCats. She also teaches a course on policy, politics, and governance as an adjunct professor in Baylor University’s Educational Leadership/Superintendent preparation doctoral program.
She previously served as the Superintendent of Lockhart Independent School District from 2015-2018, where she was nominated by the Board of Trustees for Superintendent of the Year. Prior to Lockhart, she worked nine years in Lake Travis ISD as Interim Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and General Counsel. Her professional career also includes working in Fort Bend ISD as a high school teacher and as a school attorney for Bracewell.
Dr. Bohn has three degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, a Bachelor of Arts in the Plan II Honors Program, a Master of Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs, and a Juris Doctorate from the UT School of Law. She also has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University.
